Ebola: Lagos Government affirms two contacts with dead Liberian casualty had high temperature



 

The Lagos State Government on Friday said two men out of those who had contacts with Mr Patrick Sawyer, the dead Liberian Ebola victim had manifested symptoms of fever.
Dr Jide Idris, who is the Commissioner for Health, said the two individuals were among the 70 contacts inquired and being tracked for any symptoms of the ailment by the state government and other partners.
The commissioner, who said the two instances were under observation, nevertheless stressed they didn't test positive to the virus.
Idris also stated that the government would continue to track all contacts with the victims until the end of the 21 incubation day interval of the virus.
A Team is now checking for all contacts of individuals exposed to the dead passenger with Ebola virus.
There were Two contacts who  had high body temperature, they're under observation and so far have tested negative to the virus.
"The tracking of ill cases will continue until the ending of the period of 21 days from their vulnerability to the victim,'' he said.
The commissioner said the state and an emergency operation centre's in Lagos is operating as part of attempts to assess the danger of the virus.
He added that measures had been stepped up by the Federal Government to screen incoming passengers to Nigeria to identify any traveler with symptoms through, airport, seaport and border crossing.
Idris said a deceased body was lately brought from Liberia to Nigeria, explaining the government was investigating if he died from Ebola.
The commissioner encouraged residents to collaborate with government in checking the Ebola menace in the country by reporting suspected instance for government's intervention.
While saying diseases boomed well in dirty environments,Idris encouraged residents to keep environment and body clean to decrease the risk of the virus.
Also speaking. Prof. Abdul Salim Nasidi of the National Disease Control Centre noted that though ailment had no cure ,it was treatable.
Doctor warned members of the public against emphasizing the virus had not healing,saying it might discourage those with instances that were suspected from obtaining treatment.
While indicating that the Federal Government of Nigeria was doing everything to assess the threat of the ailment,Nasidi urged citizens not to panic as no fresh instance had been found in the country.
