Well he does play a DJ! Zac Efron puffs on suspicious looking cigarette... but it's just for his new movie We Are Your Friends

He plays a DJ on the rise to fame and stardom in his new movie We Are Your Friends.

And on Friday Zac Efron got into character by smoking a suspicious looking cigarette for a scene being filmed on the Los Angeles set of the movie.

The 26-year-old actor puffed on the hand-rolled cigarette expertly with his eyes glazed over while a camera filmed him enact the scripted scene.

With headphones covering his ears, Zac smoked and glanced around himself as he clutched a trick skateboard between his knees.

Sitting on top of a picnic bench, he was surrounded by fellow young men (actors) who all appeared to be playing skaters.

The star was dressed in grey trousers, skate shoes, a tank top and short-sleeve button down shirt.  See more.......

Just for the cameras: Efron inhaled as a film camera documented the scripted moment

Lidded: The 17 Again star clutched a skateboard in his arms

While the 17 Again star puffed away and listened to his tunes, a fellow castmember in a flatbilled cap watched him intently from behind.

Zac, however, did not appear to notice as he was entranced in a reverie for the cameras.

Later in the day, he was seen without the cigarette and was in a bright mood laughing and joking - attesting to his skill as an actor.

In the film We Are Your Friends, Efron plays Cole Carter, a young DJ trying to make it big in Los Angeles.

The film also stars the very sexy Emily Ratajkowski, made famous for her topless turn in Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.

Hunger Games actor Wes Bentley portrays an older DJ named James who mentors Zac's aspiring DJ character.

Emily plays James' girlfriend Sophie who forms a love triangle with a conflicted Cole. 

The High School Musical star recently posted a Twitter picture showing an 818 tattoo on his left forearm along with a dragon tattoo.

'Destiny, power & wealth... Fiery Cole repping the 818 with his dragon tattoo. #spiritanimal #wayf #weareyourfriends ,' Zac posted, in reference to the 818 area code representing the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

We Are Your Friends is scheduled for release in 2015.
