Benin Catholic crisis disrupts women’s wing election

The power play in the Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church has taken a new dimension, as the crisis reared its head into the election of the women’s wing (Catholic Women Organisation) of St. Patrick Ugbowo Parish of the church.

This has resulted in a section of the parishioners alleging that the church was now worse than a political party.

This was the position contained in a petition by a group of members of the church (Edo Liturgical Group) to the Papa Nuncio, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja in Abuja and the Benin Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Augustine Akubeze.

The group, in the petition endorsed by one Simeon E. Ugiagbe and three others, expressed their discontentment over the women’s election and the subsequent redeployment of Rev. FR. Raymond O. Ikponmwoba, the parish priest of St. Patrick Catholic when the election was held.
